Summary

North Shore Senior High is a public high school in Houston, Texas, serving 4,534 students in grades 9-12. The school is part of the Galena Park Independent School District (GPISD), which is ranked 343 out of 961 school districts in the state and has a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger.

North Shore Senior High has consistently ranked in the bottom half of Texas high schools, maintaining a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger for most of the past decade. The school performs relatively well for its Asian student population, but struggles with its White and Multi-racial students, ranking in the bottom 20-30% of Texas high schools for these subgroups. North Shore Senior High's four-year graduation rate has declined from 92.5% in 2020-2021 to 86.6-88.1% in the following two years, and its dropout rate has increased slightly during the same period.

Academically, North Shore Senior High's performance, as measured by STAAR EOC exam proficiency rates, is generally below the district and state averages across all subject areas, particularly in Algebra I and English I/II Reading. In comparison, the nearby Galena Park Independent School District (GPISD) Career & Technical ECHS stands out as a high-performing school, consistently ranking in the top 10-20% of Texas high schools and outperforming North Shore Senior High across all STAAR EOC subjects. The high percentage of economically disadvantaged students at North Shore Senior High may be a contributing factor to the school's overall academic challenges, despite the relatively high per-student spending.

Open Quote I met some great young people who seemed to have goals set for themselves. I'm very proud to hear that coming from young people. Even speaking with the middle schoolers, they too seem to focused on school. Although many love football, the no pass no play is a great motivation for them to stay on top while in school. The staff seem to stay positive as well. Everyone always seems approachable and acceptance to communicating with their students. Glad to see a school care about its students. Close Quote
