Summary

Bill Hasse Elementary is a public elementary school in Alvin, Texas, serving 619 students in grades PK-5 as part of the Alvin Independent School District. While the district is ranked 296 out of 961 school districts in Texas, Bill Hasse Elementary has consistently ranked in the bottom half of Texas elementary schools over the past 10 years, with a ranking between 2,162 and 3,336 out of around 4,600 schools.

Academically, Bill Hasse Elementary struggles, with student performance on STAAR tests generally below the district and state averages, particularly in mathematics. For example, in 2024-2025, only 22% of 5th graders are projected to be proficient or better in STAAR Mathematics, compared to 26.45% for the district and 46.24% for the state. The school also faces challenges with achievement gaps, with lower performance for subgroups like African American, Hispanic, English Language Learner, and Special Education students. Additionally, Bill Hasse Elementary has a relatively high student-teacher ratio, ranging from 13.8 to 15 students per teacher in recent years.

Interestingly, the nearby schools within the Alvin ISD, such as Mark Twain Elementary, Melba Passmore Elementary, and Hood-Case Elementary, generally outperform Bill Hasse Elementary on academic measures. However, these nearby schools also have higher percentages of economically disadvantaged students, suggesting that Bill Hasse Elementary may be serving a more challenging student population. In contrast, Windsong Elementary, located in the Friendswood Independent School District, is a high-performing school that significantly outperforms Bill Hasse Elementary and the Alvin ISD on academic measures, despite having a lower percentage of economically disadvantaged students.

Open Quote They had my son call on the phone for forgetting one question on his homework. Now mind you most parents don't expect to get a phone call unless something is wrong with your child. Not only did i receive the call but their phones are all full of static so all i could tell is it was my son and he was in tears. I hurried to the school thinking something was wrong and i get told he forgot to do one thing on his homework and this was their policy to humiliate our children for something stupid and now you have them upset the rest of the day. Well that's a good teaching policy isn't it. So much for teaching our kids patience. This is only the third week of school and the signs are already showing it's not going to be a good year. By the way I let the school know their phones were messed up and that other parents were going to be upset with these calls and they didn't seem to care the line which was clear out the office of children most with looks of terror on their faces continued to move on as they continued to have the children call even after I told them about their phones. They don't care about the children and they don't care about the parents of the children. Not to mention their is no parking for school functions so you either have to jump the curb with your car and park across the rode or if you can get in you might find a parking spot on the grass and then you have to worry about getting blocked in. Thinking of having my child moved to a different school. Close Quote
