As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote My child has been at this school 4 years now, and I have learned the good and the bad. Sure they get higher test scores, that's the good, but the bad is the way they get there. Every year I hear from my son's teachers about him not being 'able' to finish work, and I got a little fed up and started talking to other parents and inquiring about the amount of work they give the kids. As it turns out, many many parents are begging teachers to give less classwork so their children will be able to finish. Sadly, most teachers there take away recess time for the kids not finishing, and make them finish during that tiny little 30 minutes of recess. This doesn't leave the kids refreshed to go back and do more work, but try explaining that to any teacher at this school. I inquired about just how many children don't finish their class work and its about a third each day, that many children not able to go to recess. I also inquired about the amount of work given, and it is more and more as the school year goes on. My child stopped even trying to finish because he knew that he couldn't, so even less work was being completed. Homework is another story, it is about 1-2 hours each night, every night, and projects on top of that. So anything extra you would like to do with your child while they are a student at HVE will not be possible. I'm glad my son is being pushed a little, but if I could go back, I would not have moved here for this school. I hope the principal reads this and takes it to heart. Grades and test scores are wonderful, but not at this expense. For all this work, they could at least teach another language, but they do not. Close Quote

Open Quote We moved to a nearby neighborhood so our children could attend this school, based on its high test scores. It was a mistake - we pulled out kids after ~1.5 years. The school combines all of the worst stereotypes of teachers' unions and southern schools. Lowest-common-denominator teaching by a disinterested staff and a 'spare the rod, spoil the child' principal. Test scores are good because the kids are upper middle class with involved parents - the school itself is worse than useless. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
