Open Quote I have been a parent of Taylors elementary for the past 7 Years. While I originally thought this school was the best school to send my children to, I finally can disagree. I have watched the desire for student success dwindle as the Hunger for school recognition and awards increased. They are very happy and show off when they win. But are our children's future at risk because of it? The fences outside the playground are filled with advertisements from "funding partners". Showing us that our children are now up for sale. Upon entering the "no tolerance bullying" grounds, I can say that all of my Taylors children were bullied throughout their time there. The teachers remind you how test scores are imperative and treat the impact this has on students as a home issue. It is increasingly difficult to talk with administration, and the new assistant principal has no problem raising her voice to parents in front of students. Regardless of many attempts to work with administration and the county superintendent, it's becoming more and more obvious that my children would be better served by a less "decorated" education facility. Seeing the confidence gained by young relatives attending other schools (and ultimately a better overall attitude towards education) it's obvious Taylors has fallen short on long term student success. I have a child who has since advanced to middle school. The compassion for humanity and education has brought her hopefulness for the education system back. A lesson she did not learn at Taylors where she felt obligated to do well so that her school could get recognition. I would urge the faculty and staff to remember that they are centered in an ever growing lower income community and are putting these already at risk students at further risk of overall failure. With a 55 rate of students eligible for free lunch, I would imagine this should be obvious. Attendance is seen as a contest VS an clear flaw in the system. The attendance clerk makes children feel belittled. The school lunches are not community conscious. And many children opt to not eat lunch at all with the given choices. Parents are treated as if they are uneducated and incapable of making appropiate decisions for their child's future. And decide early on in the school year whether a child will pass or fail. Parents are constantly pressured to provide the school with funding for meaningless things. A new playground but what about extra tutors and mentors? I am beyond dissapointed in this school and plan to remove my current from this sinking ship before they lose faith in the education system altogether. Close Quote
