Summary

Lent Elementary School is a public elementary school in Portland, Oregon, serving 273 students in grades K-5. The school is part of the Portland School District 1J, which is ranked 13th out of 140 districts in the state and has a 5-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Lent Elementary School faces several challenges, including consistently high chronic absenteeism rates, lower-than-average academic performance, and significant disparities in subgroup performance. While the school's 3rd-grade English Language Arts proficiency rate was 48.9% in 2024-2025, this is lower than the district average of 55.4% and the state average of 40.3%. The school's performance also varies across different student subgroups, with relatively strong performance for Hispanic students but struggles for English Language Learners and Gifted and Talented students.

When compared to nearby schools within the same district, such as Arleta Elementary and Whitman Elementary, Lent Elementary generally performs worse academically. However, Lent's performance is still better than some schools in the neighboring David Douglas School District, such as Gilbert Heights Elementary and Gilbert Park Elementary. Despite having a relatively low student-to-teacher ratio, the school's academic performance does not seem to reflect this, and further investigation may be needed to understand how the school is utilizing its resources.

Open Quote An overpaid principal equals low quality education. Scores continue to drop for most students at the school. Little to no parent involvement, those that do are treated poorly. Serious bullying and drug use is rampant at the school. Little children are routinely subjected to inappropriate language and behavior. Close Quote
