As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I attended this grammar school from 1993 - 1998 & it was the most enriching experience I have ever had. Compared to stories from friends attending other elementary schools in Queens & Long Island, 203 provided a superior educational foundation as well as many enriching programs geared towards creating a bridge between learning & having fun. I loved attending school. There are so many different cultural events at this school to celebrate all the different nationalities that together, is the heart of 203. The principal at that time, Mrs. Nussbaum, was an amazing educator. She always had a big smile on her face & always seemed to recognize each individual child on a personal level & NOT just as the principal. There were many exciting assemblies and school spirit events such as circus day, hat day, eating pizza with the principal day (random lottery of a few students every month), drug educational assembly with narcotics detecting dogs, dance festival, etc...
On top of all the fun stuff, there are also special classes for more advanced students. Students admitted to these classes are selected based on state testing scores & regular classroom grades. There's also an individual study program where a handful of overachieving children do research on their own & with the help of the school librarian, in creating something of their own, either a book or a presentation about a specific topic of their choosing. I wrote a book about different breeds of dogs & their individual characteristics, habits, care, & hereditary diseases.
This is the school I would love to send my children to one day in the near future.
If you have the privilege of being zoned to P.S. 203, please take advantage of it.
Hopefully my advice is helpful & the school has not changed too much in the past 14 years :) Close Quote

Open Quote The students at P.S. 203 ultimately end up in the top public and private high schools in New York City. From there, they are admitted into the best colleges and universities in the Nation. These leaders of tomorrow are proof positive that academic foundations need to be laid early in children’s lives. P.S. 203 has been doing that for decades! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
