Summary

Middle School 266 Park Place Community Middle School is a small public middle school in Brooklyn, New York, serving grades 6-8 with a student population of 81. The school is part of the New York City Geographic District #13, which is ranked 617 out of 874 districts in the state and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

The school's academic performance has been inconsistent, with some grades performing better than others. In the 2024-2025 school year, 8th-grade students at Middle School 266 outperformed the district and state averages in ELA and Math, while 6th-grade students struggled, scoring well below the district and state. The school's 8th-grade science performance was also strong, with 53.85% of students proficient compared to 43.81% for the district and 43.5% for the state. However, the school's overall ranking has fluctuated, from as high as 98 out of 1,242 New York middle schools in 2020-2021 to 1,216 out of 1,500 in 2022-2023, suggesting the need for a closer examination of the school's instructional practices and support systems.

Compared to nearby schools, Middle School 266 generally performs better than its peers in District #13, particularly in 8th-grade ELA and Math. However, the school still lags behind higher-performing schools in the neighboring District #15, such as Middle School 51 William Alexander and Exploratory School (The). The school's high percentage of economically disadvantaged students and students with special needs suggests it is serving a vulnerable population, and the significant increase in per-student spending may indicate a concerted effort to provide additional resources and support.

Open Quote I believe the school wants to head in the best direction under the new administration. However, there are issues with bullying and students who are constantly in the hallways. There needs to be more effort put into social emotional awareness as well as REAL consequences for students who are not attending classes. Unhappy students cannot perform well and students who do not attend cannot show their potential. I have looked at the data and in terms of district and state 266 is still not meeting any. I believe that there are some great teachers here, but others who could do better. With that said parent accountability is also a factor and contributes to a child's success. Close Quote

Open Quote This rating system is ridiculous. We have an incredible school that meets the various needs of all of our students. We offer a wide array of activities to nurture the whole student. We have an amazing music program with band, orchestra, choir and rock band. We also offer French and Foreign language. Our school is part of ongoing STEM programs including the Billion Oyster project as well as robotics and computer programming. We have teachers who truly care about the well-being of their students and administrators and support staff who consistently go above and beyond. Close Quote
