Summary

PS 165 Robert E Simon is an elementary school located in New York City's District 3, serving grades PK-5 with an enrollment of 425 students. While the school has been consistently ranked in the middle range of New York elementary schools, it faces several challenges in student performance and resource allocation.

The school's student performance on state assessments is generally below the district and state averages, particularly in math, with only 42.65% of 5th graders proficient in 2024-2025 compared to 64.85% in the district and 54.16% statewide. However, the school's performance for white students is significantly stronger, with 5th grade ELA proficiency rates reaching 64.29% in 2024-2025, compared to 56.61% statewide. The school also struggles with its performance for subgroups like English Language Learners, Special Education students, and students from low socioeconomic backgrounds, who rank in the bottom half or bottom quarter of New York elementary schools.

Despite its challenges, PS 165 Robert E Simon maintains relatively high spending per student, ranging from $18,665 to $32,012 over the past few years, and a low student-teacher ratio between 12.2 and 13.7. When compared to nearby schools, PS 165 Robert E Simon generally performs better than schools in the same district, such as Stem Institute of Manhattan and PS 145 Bloomingdale School (The), but lags behind higher-performing charter schools like Success Academy Charter School-Harlem 4 and KIPP Star College Prep Charter School, which consistently outperform the district and state averages.

Open Quote My daughter currently attends PS 165 & having a gray experience. She looks forward to going to school everyday. The teachers communicate often via email, calls & texts (remind app). During these uncertain times they try daily to keep both students & staff safe, following the doe & cdc guidelines. Close Quote
