Summary

Allen Middle is a public middle school located in Greensboro, North Carolina, serving 660 students in grades 6-8. The school is part of the Guilford County Schools district, which is ranked 142 out of 242 districts in the state.

Despite the school's high percentage of students from low-income backgrounds, ranging from 98.75% to 99.57% receiving free or reduced-price lunch, Allen Middle consistently underperforms compared to the district and state averages in standardized test scores across all grade levels and subject areas. For example, in the 2024-2025 school year, the percentage of students proficient or better in EOG/Mathematics ranged from 28.1% for 8th grade to 39.2% for 6th grade, significantly lower than the district and state averages. The school's performance is particularly concerning for certain student subgroups, ranking in the bottom half of North Carolina middle schools for female, male, Asian, Hispanic, and low socioeconomic status students.

While the nearby schools, such as Southeast Guilford Middle, Otis L Hairston Senior Middle, and Mendenhall Middle, also serve high-poverty populations, they generally outperform Allen Middle across academic measures. However, the school's relatively strong performance for homeless students, ranking in the top 15% of schools, is a bright spot and may indicate that the school is providing effective support and resources for this vulnerable population.

Open Quote I regret coming here, I was only forced to come here due to my family moving houses. The school in my opinion is very ghetto, although the Principal tries to make efforts to make it good, students still act very rude, there are tons of fights for very small things, this school has a lot of drama, I do not recommended coming here, a student that had shingles was bullied in school, she was my friend, people here stick with their friends and dislike the others. :( Close Quote
