Christian Collegiate Academy

I had two children who attended this school. All that matter here are the sports. While my children enjoyed being able to play sports due to the smallness of the school, they also complained bitterly about the lack of challenge in academics. They were given almost no homework and examples of classwork and tests that I saw all focused exclusively on regurgitating facts on pre-made tests. No essays, no application, no critical-thinking.

Most of the teachers in the middle/high school were uninspiring and boring (and if they weren't, they left quickly). One of my children even had a class where the teacher never actually taught--the students just filled in worksheets from a textbook. Class discussions were rare and were not open to opposing opinions.

But much more damaging than the poor academics was the overall atmosphere and culture of this school set by the administration. Students were disciplined for the slightest of infractions and had their facebook pages closely monitored to ensure they weren't saying things the school didn't like. High school students were not allowed to change classes on their own but were actually lined up in lines like small children and walked to their next class by teachers. I've spent years encouraging my children to be self-disciplined and independent, this school does not embrace these ideals in anyway.

Although the school had a small teaching staff of only around 20 people, 4 teachers left in the middle of the year and 4-5 more left over the summer. It didn't take hearing the rumors to realize that the administrator of this school treats staff very poorly and that it was a very uninviting place to work. Avoid at all costs!
