Open Quote I agree with the previous review...the 6th grade teacher is just awful. I don't understand why she is allowed to continue teaching. And now with the changes to the school...the loss of the fabulous 3rd and now the fabulous 4th grade teachers, I wouldn't recommend the school to anyone. Sadly, we have decided to leave the school and the district. Close Quote

Open Quote Do NOT go to this school. The 6th grade teacher there is horrible and should just retire. All she does is scream at the kids and belittle them. And she teaches them NOTHING. Ask any parent whose kid has had this teacher and they will tell you that 6th grade is a waste of an academic year. She also teaches 5th grade math, so my kid got yelled at and belittled for two years. And to make matters worse, we were just told that this teacher is going to be the "science specialist" for 3rd - 6th graders as well as the 5th grade math and 6th grade teacher. Because of low enrollment, Marine is losing a teacher - the absolutely fabulous 3rd grade teacher. Because of seniority, the horrible 6th grade teacher stays and the fantastic 3rd grade teacher goes. And how are they going to teacher 7 grades with only 6 teachers? What a joke. There is no way we are letting our other child endure this teacher for 4 years...we are leaving Marine. If you are looking at this school, look elsewhere. If you have kids there now, get them out before this teacher destroys their self esteem. Close Quote

Open Quote Love the community at Marine Elementary. The school forest and 6th grade play are also highlights at the school. A place where every teacher knows every child. Close Quote

Open Quote I am the mom of a kindergartner and 2nd grader. We looked at many schools before we found Marine Elementary. We were thrilled to find free busing from Stillwater. Its academics are top notch so we knew our kids would get an outstanding education. But it was the small intimate setting and sense of belonging that sold us. This is a place where literally, everyone knows your name. Children feel safe and loved at this school and can blossom academically, socially and emotionally. We also love the feeling of family and how the parents come together to support the school. In this beautiful rural setting, the children get to enjoy the school forest, ice rink and Warner Nature Center. I feel assured that our kids will leave this special place confident and ready to succeed in middle school and beyond. Close Quote

Open Quote I am a father of a kindergartner and 4th grader. Marine Elementary is an incredible and unique school in so many ways. It’s a place where we know and feel known by all of the staff and teachers, as well as by the families in our children's classes. We have a strong sense of pride and ownership in our school; a sense that our input and participation as parents and advocates is not only welcome, but essential. This isn't a place we "go to", but rather a place we belong to. For us, Marine is much more than another collection of teachers and curriculum. This is where our children learn the meaning of living in community, of working together and solving our differences rather than avoiding them. We simply cannot imagine sending our children anywhere else! Close Quote

Open Quote My son has attended Marine Elementary since Kindergarten. He is now in the 4th grade. We love the creative atmosphere and one on one attention. It is truly a community school filed with loving, kind kids, parents and staff. Although it has all the benefits of a large district, we appreciate the intimate, unique experience that is Marine Elementary. Close Quote

Open Quote Our family is within the Stillwater school boundaries but not within Marine’s enrollment boundaries. We have taken advantage of the district’s alternative enrollment and free bussing options so that our kids can attend Marine. Both our boys have been changed by their time at Marine, it is such a unique place.

There are too many things that we love about Marine to list them all but one of my top favorites is the staff's united front on their expectations of our kids. I think their expectations can be summed up this way. School is a place of learning and all students should work to achieve their personal best each and every day. Now you are saying to yourself, all schools say they expect this of their kids. And I agree, I think most schools would say this is what they expect. The difference at Marine is that all teachers and staff reinforce that expectation in big and little ways each day. My other big "like" is that this school is a true community and each member of our community encouraged to be interested in learning, asking questions, playing, helping, encouraging others, empathizing, supporting, and growing as individuals and as a family. I absolutely believe that by sending our kids to Marine we have given them a head start on growing into best version of themselves that is possible. My other top “likes” about Marine are Forrest Fridays, Daily Oxygen Dashes, and Standing Desks. So glad to have found this school! Close Quote

Open Quote This is a small school where every staff member knows and cares about your child! We love that. All of the kids from every grade know her as well and that was so comforting for our daughter as she made her way through kindergarten. The test scores and academics of this school are great and that is important, but the sense of community and belonging that is felt here matters just as much to us. Close Quote

Open Quote A warm, welcoming environment. The students and teachers all know one another, thanks in large part to the "buddy" program which matches older and younger students for the school year. We love Marine Elementary! Close Quote
