Summary

Cornelia Elementary is a public elementary school in Edina, Minnesota, serving 593 students from kindergarten to 5th grade. The school is part of the Edina Public School District, which is ranked 11th out of 446 districts in the state and has a 5-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Cornelia Elementary consistently outperforms the state average in both math and reading proficiency, with 66.67% of students proficient in math compared to the state average of 45.21%. The school particularly excels in certain student subgroups, such as Asian and White students, who rank in the top quartile of their respective subgroups statewide. However, the school's performance for Hispanic and low-income students is relatively weaker, indicating a need to address achievement gaps. Cornelia Elementary has a relatively low student-teacher ratio of 12.3 to 13.4 students per teacher, lower than nearby Concord Elementary and Normandale Elementary.

While Cornelia Elementary has maintained a strong academic performance, the school has seen an increase in the percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, from 15.63% in 2021-2022 to 29.46% in 2022-2023. This shift in the school's demographic composition may present new challenges in addressing the needs of a more diverse student population. Overall, Cornelia Elementary is a high-performing school, but it will be important to continue monitoring and addressing any achievement gaps to ensure equitable educational opportunities for all students.

Open Quote We moved from a diverse neighborhood in NYC to Edina and were thrilled that our child is attending Cornelia. We have found the community to be warm and welcoming the teachers are extraordinary the school grounds are spacious (and the playground is accessible to kids of all abilities) and the Gifted Math teacher is a true gem.
