Summary

Capitol Heights Elementary is a public magnet elementary school serving 301 students in grades PK-5 in Capitol Heights, Maryland, which is part of the Prince George's County Public Schools district.

Capitol Heights Elementary consistently outperforms the Prince George's County and Maryland state averages in Mathematics, English Language Arts, and Science proficiency across all grade levels. The school's performance is particularly strong for its African American and low socioeconomic status student populations, ranking highly among Maryland elementary schools in these categories. However, the school has experienced higher chronic absenteeism rates compared to district and state averages.

Despite having a high percentage of students from low-income backgrounds, Capitol Heights Elementary is able to achieve strong academic outcomes, outperforming nearby schools with even higher percentages of low-income students. This suggests the school is effectively allocating its resources, which include significantly higher per-student spending and a lower student-teacher ratio compared to the district and state averages.

Open Quote I have been a parent and volunteer at this school for 4* years. I have watched the change and growth and am truly impressed with the faculty at the school. The Positive Behavior (PBIS) program truly works. They have a number of community based organizations that work hard to ensure that all needs are met. This is an excellent school. Close Quote
