As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote The school is just getting by on its reputation from days gone by. I was, once, a great school however, it hasn't been much more than average in several years. The principal is a eunuch who let's his assistant principal of instruction run the place. This woman is probably the most obnoxious and rude individual I've ever known. She runs the campus by bullying everyone in her path. I'm not sure how someone like that ever got into an administrative position. The entrance exam minimum for Herndon is 51 compared to 90-95 of other magnet schools in the area. This is done to increase their numbers whether or not a student has the academic ability to be at a magnet school doesn't matter. As a result of this, teachers have to spend the majority of their time remediating below average students instead of challenging advanced students. The good news is that most parents are ok with it because it allows them to boast to their neighbors that their child attends a "magnet school" despite the fact that it really isn't. If a parent isn't happy with a grade because their little darling really isn't all that academically gifted or just didn't do the work, all they have to do is call the school and throw a tantrum and the administration will force teachers to change grades. So, the moral of the story is if you want your child to really have the magnet school experience, go somewhere ...anywhere else. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
