Open Quote I attended Mary Ryan Academy from 2004 to 2007. I came to this school with crippling depression and anxiety disorders. I didn't speak to many people and I trusted no one. This prevented me from doing normal schoolwork. The school's staff worked with me introduced me to girls my age and encouraged me to socialize. Soon I became comfortable and with that new comfort I did better in class. This school gives kids more then an education it gives them a confidence they never had. It gives them hope and it teaches them how to cope with their disabilities. I am thankful my parents found this school because who knows where I'd be. I know several others that attended this school who are also success stories. We learned how to deal with anger caused by bipolar disorder. Some of us learned how to cope with unwanted thoughts brought on by schizophrenia and personality disorders. Some of us never even knew that we had disabilities. Thanks to Mrs. Ryan and her staff and teachers they took kids who had reached rock bottom and built them back up into beautiful adults.
I was 14 when I came to this school I was shy depressed and unsure what was wrong with me. While at this school I learned I was bipolar and I have a personality disorder. I am now a healthy 21 year old young lady. Thanks to them I know how to cope with my disability and I no longer let it take over. I learned resiliency from these beautiful people. I learned that when life knocks you down you got to get back up. While at the school I also learned that no matter how bad my disabilities are someone is far worse. I learned this during our many trips to Camp Crooked Creek. When I was working with younger kids with worse disabilities then mine I felt useful I felt needed and worthy, better then that I felt confident something I never had before. I just want to say thank you to Mrs. Ryan for founding the school. If you know anyone with an emotionally crippling disorder this school can help. Close Quote
