Summary

Spring Creek Elementary School is a public elementary school serving 532 students in grades K-5 in Rockford, Illinois, which is part of the Rockford School District 205. The school consistently performs below the state average in both English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics proficiency, with only 36.2% and 30.4% of students meeting proficiency standards in 2024-2025, respectively, compared to the state averages of 53.1% and 38.5%.

Spring Creek Elementary School also faces significant challenges with chronic absenteeism, with a rate of 25.4% in 2024-2025, much higher than the state average of 15.8%. The school's performance varies greatly across different student subgroups, with particularly low proficiency rates for English Language Learners, Special Education students, and students from low socioeconomic backgrounds. Interestingly, the nearby Montessori Elementary School, which is also part of the Rockford School District 205, outperforms Spring Creek Elementary School in both ELA and Mathematics proficiency.

Despite the school's relatively high spending per student, ranging from $12,346 to $14,979 over the past few years, the academic outcomes suggest the need for a more comprehensive review of the school's instructional practices, resource allocation, and strategies to address the underlying factors contributing to the observed performance issues. The high chronic absenteeism rates may also be a contributing factor to the school's low academic performance, and the significant performance gaps among student subgroups raise concerns about equity that need to be addressed.

Open Quote We have been at Spring Creek Elementary School for four years this Fall 2014. We are pleased with the School, the Teachers, the Principal, and the education that our children are receiving. We have three children in attendance. We looked hard at our options before making this choice. We recommend the school to others interested in attending Public Schools.
