Summary

Chaney-Monge School is an elementary school located in Crest Hill, Illinois, serving grades K-8 with a student population of 451. It is part of the Chaney-Monge School District 88, which is ranked 768 out of 811 districts in Illinois and has a 0-star rating from SchoolDigger. Chaney-Monge School has consistently ranked in the bottom 25% of Illinois elementary schools over the past decade, with a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Chaney-Monge School significantly underperforms the state averages in both English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics proficiency across all grade levels. For example, in the 2024-2025 school year, only 33.9% of Chaney-Monge students were proficient in ELA, compared to the state average of 53.1%. In Mathematics, the proficiency rate was just 13.8%, compared to the state average of 38.5%. The school also has consistently high chronic absenteeism rates, ranging from 25.4% to 29.4% in recent years, which is significantly higher than the state average. Despite spending significantly more per student ($19,265 in 2023-2024) compared to the state average, this higher spending does not translate to improved academic outcomes.

The analysis of nearby schools reveals that Chaney-Monge School is not an outlier in terms of poor academic performance. Many of the surrounding schools, such as Pershing Elementary, Sator Sanchez Elementary, and Farragut Elementary, also struggle with low proficiency rates in ELA and Mathematics, as well as high chronic absenteeism. However, one notable exception is Richland Elementary School, which consistently outperforms Chaney-Monge and the surrounding schools in both ELA and Mathematics proficiency.

Open Quote The assignments my children are getting are the same as my little sister received when she went nearly 15 years ago. They spend nearly $9000 per student and 70.6% of that is on teachers salaries.

The condescension of the staff is intolerable and it took threats of litigation to get my oldest excluded from liberal programs that have no business in a public school system. And on top of that their ISAT scores are horrendous with most grades hovering around 50% meeting state requirements.

Now we have the retired superintendent working the max allowed to still receive his full pension. So we are paying him more now then we did when he was full time. So here's my question... If we could get by with a superintendent that only works 100 hours now why do we need to replace him with a full time salary? (The largest salary in the school)

This school is a prime example of public schools gone wrong. If the state just cut me a check for the $9000 they supposedly spend to educate my kid I could provide a quality Catholic education or some pretty awesome teaching materials for my wife to home school him. Taxes through the roof and $250 in school fees absurd!!!!!!!!!! Close Quote

Open Quote This school does not provide a challenging enough curriculum for the students. When I compare the work assigned to my child to the work that my friends' children are given at their school, it seems as if Chaney Monge is extremely behind. In addition, the school is small, poor, and the staff isn't very friendly. I am glad to say that my son won't be attending next year! Close Quote
