Open Quote I have have two kid in this school. One just graduated and the other is in the ninth grade. This is by far the worst school I have ever been associated with. My son tried to take advanced Spanish but was told by the Spanish teacher that his class was used for homework and if time allowed, for movies. Then he went to Geometry and was told by the teacher that paddling was the focus and if he paddled he would pass geometry. My son paddled to pass since there was not actual teaching. Then his English teacher had some kind of a nervous breakdown in class and the students were unable to have proper communication with her. Now my daughter is having the same issues. The Algebra teacher will not teach and only passes kids cause she has too, not to lose her job. All she does is give out papers and tells them to learn it. When we approached the teacher, she gave us a number for tutoring. The tutor is great but now the teacher is upset with the fact that now my daughter knows more then she does and does not give her credit for knowing but give the other students credit for trying. There are 20 students in that class and only 7 stay, the rest leave to cruise the hallways because she wont teach. Kids in this school can just get up and leave the class anytime they want. The algebra teacher told all the students to leave because they were asking questions and when they came back she scolded them for leaving. The students have actually told her to take tutoring herself. The principal is nowhere to be found and the students never interact with him. This school only gets higher rating than others in Hawaii because the numbers are not correct and teachers fudge them. My son went to talk to a counselor and was told to come back because they did not want to stop their fun time to handle issues that really don't matter. WOW!!!!!!!! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
