Open Quote I have to agree with the previous reviewer, while I went to this high school prior to my children it has deteriorated even more over the years. The administrative is an example of who knows who to get in and are some of the most uneducated people I have had the misfortune to deal with. The teachers, most of which seemed to have graduated from nearby BYU college, are some of the worst I have ever dealt with. My child was sick and I called and emailed and went to the school and I was never able to get their work. They kept saying that my child can make it up when they went back to school. My child was seriously sick, I didn't want them to fall behind but they showed no concern for doing their job to supply the requested homework. There is a Mr. Spurrier there that cusses at the children on a regular basis, that is completely unacceptable, but since he is a coach he gets away with it. Another of my child's teachers would have mental breakdowns, uncontrollably yelling at students, and would leave the children unattended for long periods, and in one instance the whole period. However, if your child is a star athlete, they will do their best to make sure that they are passing all their classes, so far as to tweak the grades. I am a believer in education is what you make of it, but you can't make a mountain out of a mole hill. There are a few good teachers, but the majority of them are seriously lacking in education themselves. The HSA test score show the low level of education received at this school, can't expect teachers to teach what they don't fully comprehend themselves. I also would recommend either an online or private school if possible other than sending your children to Kahuku unless all you care about is athletics. Close Quote

Open Quote Kahuku High School is probably the worst public school that I have ever seen. The statistics on this school tells the whole story. A fundamental lack of concern about basic educational criteria and the fact that the state protects teachers that fail in the class room provides the perfect condition for failure. The current administration has led the school to even further demise. Although this school has produced a large number of professional football players many players will fail at the college level because they do not possess the basic building blocks in reading, science and math to succeed in the college arena.
Consider online school when living in this district!
This school should be ranked 0 but I had to put one star because the program will not allow a rating of 0. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
