The school is part of the Barrow County School District, which is ranked 103 out of 206 districts in Georgia and has a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Holsenbeck Elementary generally performs better than the Barrow County and Georgia averages in Milestones Assessment test scores, particularly in mathematics. However, the school has a relatively high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 56.87% to 67.17% over the past few years, which is higher than the nearby schools in the Barrow County district. Holsenbeck also spends more per student ($9,241 in 2018-2019) compared to the other Barrow County schools, which range from $8,866 to $10,751 per student, and has a lower student-teacher ratio (13.1 in 2023-2024) compared to the other Barrow County schools, which range from 11.8 to 14.6 students per teacher.

While Holsenbeck performs well compared to its local peers, the nearby West Jackson Elementary and Gum Springs Elementary, which are part of the Jackson County School District, significantly outperform Holsenbeck and the other Barrow County schools in both test scores and statewide rankings. These Jackson County schools have lower free/reduced lunch rates and higher spending per student, which may contribute to their stronger academic performance. Holsenbeck could focus on improving academic outcomes, particularly in English Language Arts, and addressing the needs of its economically disadvantaged student population to further enhance its educational outcomes.

Open Quote My children just completed their 3rd and final year at Holsenbeck. I have decided it would be safer to homeschool and I feel the quality of their education will improve dramatically. My daughter has dealt with bullies for the entirety of her time at this school but this year has been the worst by far. She has been physically assaulted on the bus and at school multiple times, as well as verbally abused, and nothing happens to the other students. It feels like they would rather keep their funding up by keeping children that are destroying the self esteem and school spirit of every other student they encounter than deal with the problem. My children have come home from school discussing the opinions of their teachers when it comes to trans individuals and how "great" communism could be for our country. My son had the highest average in math for the year and my kids regularly received awards for their good behavior and good grades but it didn't really even feel like much of an accomplishment this year considering the school that awarded them. My kids will never go back and I would never recommend this school to other parents. Close Quote

Open Quote Feel the school doesn't promote parental involvement. To visit child during school , visit must be planned and authorized prior ! The school is very strict on this almost to the point of red flags Close Quote
