Summary

Fruitville Elementary School is a public elementary school in Sarasota, Florida, serving grades PK-5 with a total enrollment of 747 students. The school is part of the Sarasota School District, which is ranked 11th out of 67 districts in Florida and has a 4-star rating from SchoolDigger. Fruitville Elementary has maintained a 4-star rating from SchoolDigger for most of the past decade, indicating it is a high-performing school within the district.

Fruitville Elementary consistently outperforms the Sarasota district and the state of Florida in standardized test scores across various subjects and grade levels. For example, in the 2024-2025 school year, Fruitville's 5th-grade science proficiency rate was 70%, compared to 67% for Sarasota and 55% for Florida. However, the school has had relatively high chronic absenteeism rates ranging from 14% to 31.4% in recent years, which is an area of concern. Fruitville Elementary also has a higher percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 54.16% to 57.56% in recent years, indicating a higher proportion of economically disadvantaged students.

Compared to nearby schools, Fruitville Elementary generally outperforms in test scores, with the exception of Tatum Ridge Elementary, which has consistently higher proficiency rates across various subjects and grade levels. Fruitville's higher per-student spending, ranging from $13,775 in 2020-2021 to $17,614 in 2023-2024, suggests the school is allocating significant resources to support its students, though the high chronic absenteeism rates indicate there may be opportunities to optimize the use of these resources to address specific areas of need.

Open Quote We have two boys attending Fruitville for the past three years, and we LOVE IT!!
The Teachers, the staff, and student body. The PTO is amazing, and gives the students many opportunities to excel themselves. Book drives, career days, fund raisers are all fun and do a great deal for the students. The teachers go out of their way to support each student they have in their classrooms. Class sizes are small compared to the national averages, and parents are always welcome to join in the classroom to observe or lend a hand with activities. I would not move my gifted child to Pine View. He doesn't need 2 hours of homework everynight because the teacher doesn't value the parents time well.
