Summary

Academy For Positive Learning is a public charter elementary school serving grades K-8 in West Palm Beach, Florida, with a relatively small student population of 98 students. The school's student body is predominantly Hispanic (67.35%), with smaller percentages of African American (20.41%) and White (8.16%) students.

While the school performs well in some areas, such as 70% proficiency in Civics EOC exams, it struggles in others, with only 23% proficiency in 4th grade ELA and 8% proficiency in 4th grade Math. The school's chronic absenteeism rates are also a concern, ranging from 41.0% in 2022-2023 to a peak of 60.4% in 2021-2022, significantly higher than the Palm Beach district and state averages. Additionally, the school has a very high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 73.47% to 95.56% over the past few years, which is significantly higher than the rates at nearby schools like Renaissance Charter School At West Palm Beach (34.93%) and Meadow Park Elementary School (81.85%).

The relatively high spending per student at Academy For Positive Learning, ranging from $8,918 to $13,535 per student over the past few years, suggests that the school may need to evaluate how it is allocating its resources to address the specific needs of its student population and improve academic outcomes. Overall, the data for Academy For Positive Learning indicates that the school faces significant challenges, particularly in terms of chronic absenteeism, academic performance, and serving a high-need student population, which will likely require a multi-faceted approach to address.

Open Quote The Principal uses fear and intimidation to even the youngest students, she called the parents of the entire student body "Crooks" for returning too early after a Title One parent night Bingo game entry. She went into detail about what dishonesty is and how their parent cheated. Teachers have a 100 turnover every year. The Academy for Negative Learning only teaches the kids how to cope with an Aggressive Assertive Principal. Close Quote
