Springwood Elementary School faces significant challenges, including consistently high chronic absenteeism rates, ranging from 30.9% to 36.8% over the past few years, which is significantly higher than the Leon District average of around 31.4%. The school's test scores are also consistently lower than the Leon District and Florida state averages across all grade levels and subjects. For example, in the 2024-2025 school year, the school's proficiency rates in English Language Arts and Math were 36-61% and 52-84%, respectively, compared to the Leon District's 54-63% and 56-63%, and the Florida state's 56-57% and 57-63%. When compared to the nearby schools in the Leon District, such as Gilchrist Elementary and The School of Arts & Sciences Centre, Springwood Elementary School generally performs worse on key metrics such as test scores, chronic absenteeism, and free/reduced lunch rates. Additionally, Springwood Elementary School's performance, as measured by its statewide ranking and SchoolDigger star rating, has declined over the years, from ranking 1061 out of 2087 Florida elementary schools in 2015-2016 (2 stars) to ranking 1374 out of 2258 in 2024-2025 (2 stars). Despite the relatively high per-student spending at Springwood Elementary School, the school's academic performance remains low compared to the district and state averages, raising questions about the effective use of resources and the need for targeted interventions to address the underlying challenges facing the school.

Open Quote The school has went down since Dr Small has left... The principal is not interested in the principal role her heart is definitely not into it... Spends more time off campus than on campus. It's ridiculous how this school has fallen flat. Praying for an immediate change. Close Quote

Open Quote My child has had behavior problems and needed an iep. This school has been absolutely amazing in his progress. We also lost his father to suicide this year and they have been extremely understanding and helpful with all he has dealt with. Close Quote
