Open Quote I am a former teacher at Edgewood Academy. Edgewood used to be an "A" school FIVE years ago before the current administration took over. Since they took over, it has been a "C" school for the past FOUR years(2009-2010 to 2012-2013). This year (2013-2014) it's a "D" school, and it's going downhill fast.

The principal came in and forced out experienced teachers that she did not hire or like.....or both...and hired new young teachers with little experience to (1) save money) and (2) have more influence over...nothing new right? Happens all of the time. Micromanager for sure.

If you have an ESOL student, walk away. If you have an ESE student, RUN as fast as you can. There are no accommodations(remedial help) for ESE students and extremely little for ESOL students. If your child is an ESOL student, he/she would be lucky to see the ESOL paraprofessional for 30 minutes a week. I would look for a better school where ESOL and ESE students AND teachers get support. Edgewood has inclusion classes which means that ESOL and ESE students are mixed in with other students and no accommodations which is a crime. The school may look nice and have a beautiful campus, and the students get a free breakfast, & a backpack of food for the weekend, but don t let that fool you. Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere! Avoid! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
