Summary

Kenly Elementary School is a public elementary school in Tampa, Florida, serving 422 students in grades PK-5. The school is part of the Hillsborough School District, which is ranked 49 out of 67 districts in the state and has a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Kenly Elementary School faces significant challenges, including consistently high chronic absenteeism rates, ranging from 30.9% to 48.2% over the past few years, which is much higher than the district and state averages. The school's test scores are also consistently lower than the Hillsborough district and Florida state averages across all grade levels and subjects. For example, in the 2024-2025 school year, only 24% of 3rd graders were proficient or better in English Language Arts, compared to 53% in the district and 57% statewide. Additionally, Kenly has a very high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 85.55% to 94.24% over the past few years, significantly higher than the district and state averages.

When comparing Kenly Elementary School to nearby schools in the same district, it becomes clear that Kenly is performing significantly worse across multiple metrics. For example, Desoto Elementary School, which is only 3.3 miles away, has much higher test scores and a lower chronic absenteeism rate. This suggests that the school may be facing unique challenges, such as serving a population of students with significant socioeconomic barriers, which could be contributing to its lower academic performance. Despite the relatively high per-student spending at Kenly, the school's performance still lags behind the district and state averages, raising questions about the effective allocation and utilization of resources to support student learning.

Open Quote Kenly Elementary is the WORST school my kids have ever attended I would not reccomend anybody sending their kids there, the staff doesn't care about the kids, they do not watch them closely so there is a lot of bullying and hitting going on. I would not even give this school one star but in order to write my review they make you give at least one star. Also my kids went from E's and S's to N's and U's. I am to the point where I am moving away from this neighborhood just so my kids do not have to go to this HORRIBLE place they call Kenly Elementary. A place where kids are supposed to learn not have to worry about whats going to happen to them when they go to school every morning!!!!! Close Quote
