Summary

Archimedean Academy is a high-performing public charter elementary school in Miami, Florida, serving 643 students in grades K-5. The school consistently ranks among the top 20-40 elementary schools in the state and maintains a 5-star rating from SchoolDigger, significantly outperforming the Miami-Dade district and Florida state averages on standardized tests across all grade levels and subjects.

Archimedean Academy's academic excellence is evident in its impressive metrics. In 2024-2025, 84-96% of its students were proficient in ELA and Math, compared to 57-69% for Miami-Dade and 55-63% for the state. The school also boasts an 85% 5th-grade science proficiency rate, far surpassing the district and state averages of 56% and 55%, respectively. While Archimedean's chronic absenteeism rate has increased in recent years, reaching 31.4% in 2023-2024, it remains lower than the district and state averages.

Interestingly, Archimedean Academy's performance, while exceptional, is not as dramatically different from nearby public schools like Cypress K-8 Center, Royal Green Elementary, and Calusa Elementary as one might expect. This suggests that the nearby schools are also performing relatively well, even if they are not at the same level as Archimedean. Additionally, Archimedean serves a significant population of students (43.86% in 2023-2024) who qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, indicating that the school is able to achieve its high academic performance despite serving a relatively disadvantaged student population.

Open Quote We drive an extra hour every day so our daughter can attend AA. In one school year we noticed a difference in her math skills, her ability to solve equations using mental is unbelievable. She is treated as an individual not just another number in the system by everyone, from her teachers to the administration including the principal. We could not be happier with the school, it is the same if not better than a private school. Close Quote

Open Quote I am a high school student in AUC. I am living in hell. I have never been so stressed in my life. This year is the first year i have ever gotten F'S. And what does the school do about it? "You should've payed more attention" This school is horrible do NOT send your child to it. They only care about their reputation and money. Close Quote

Open Quote This school is not what it appears to be. All they care about is the FCAT scores. They are very disorganized, and they some teachers from greece who are not certified to teach in our country, and I had many complains from my children that they are very harsh and scream to the children. They teach regular math and a so-called greek math (just math in greek language), but they teach different concepts at the same time. Like large numbers in greek math while teaching decimals in regular math. I don't have to tell you how confusing it gets for the children.
The turnover is tremendous. One of my kids went into the school in 5th grade, and less than 6 of the students that were in his original 5th grade class graduated from high school there. It is all about money. After school care is more expensive than private schools and it is so noisy that children have a hard time doing their homework there. Sports are virtually non existent, and whatever they offer is always super expensive. The school is dirty and getting more dilapidated by the day. There are no computers for elementary. The cafeteria is open with no air conditioning, so children have to eat under extreme heat in the summer or cold when temperature dips below 50 during winter.
There is zero feedback from the greek owners. Every time I have requested explanations about different issues, the issues are directed to the higher ups from Greece, but I have never had a single response from them.
The PTO is very active, and they collect considerable amounts of money every year, yet I have never seen what the money is used for. This year they promised to buy $26,000 worth of lap tops, but still nothing as of this writing.
Since this is my kid's school, I have tried to bring issues to their attention to improve the school. Close Quote

Open Quote My 2 children have attended this school for 5 years. Once a private school-like, family-friendly environment. This has disintegrated year after year due to the school's focus on high performance which concentrates on FCAT scores & detracts from nurturing young children's love for learning. Overload hw & no respect for family time during holidays or vacations.
The administration leach off parents when they need monetary donations or volunteers for events/school improvement but otherwise turn same parents away & make them feel unwelcome in what was formerly a warm & inviting environment. Students do not respect but FEAR the assistant principal. She intimidates children & has grudges against certain children. She lacks professionalism & is demeaning to students as well as parents. Activities are disorganized, rushed & announced at the last minute. Administration doesn't seem sincere in their interest in student activities & appear to be going through the motions when they participate. Mandatory Saturday school lacks purpose & is redundant. It isn't geared to improve any specific skill. Extracurricular activities are limited & money-making devices rather than for children's benefit. Close Quote
