Summary

Naramake Elementary School is a public elementary school serving grades PK-5 in Norwalk, Connecticut. With 366 students, the school has consistently ranked in the bottom half of Connecticut elementary schools over the past decade, earning a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Naramake Elementary faces several challenges, including low academic performance, high chronic absenteeism, and a high percentage of students from low-income families. The school's test scores consistently underperform the Norwalk School District and the state of Connecticut, with only 35% of 3rd graders proficient or better in ELA, compared to 40.5% for the district and 46.9% for the state. Additionally, Naramake has had high chronic absenteeism rates, ranging from 17.7% to 21.1% over the past few years, significantly higher than the state average.

Interestingly, Naramake's Hispanic and low-socioeconomic status students perform relatively well compared to their peers in the state, ranking in the top half of Connecticut schools in these categories. This suggests the school may be doing a better job supporting these student populations. However, the nearby schools in the Norwalk School District, such as Jefferson Marine Science, Marvin, Kendall College & Career, and Tracey Magnet, also struggle with low test scores and high chronic absenteeism, suggesting systemic challenges within the district. In contrast, the Westport schools of Saugatuck Elementary and King's Highway Elementary significantly outperform Naramake and the Norwalk district on most metrics.

Open Quote I love this school and my daughter loves it as well! We moved to our neighborhood in Norwalk to get a full community experience. Our daughter was accepted to Columbus Magnet School and although tempted, we passed and stayed with Naramake. My kids can walk to all the schools and the teachers and staff at Naramake are so inviting. My daughter is performing above the state averages and has loved all her teachers. We made the right choice, Close Quote

Open Quote Many people think Naramake is a wonderful school.
It is...if you are part of the "Principal's Pack." The principal is very controlling behind that smile of hers. She has made it so staff and parents report back to her everything they see and hear, and then she deals with it--or not--however she sees fit.
Although they will tell you there is no favoritism, it could not be farther from the truth! Children of teachers/PTO parents definitely receive certain "perks" and privileges.
The bragging about the test scores all over the Internet is nauseating! The only thing those scores mean is more money for the school and brownie points for the administrators. It really does not adequately measure a child's true intelligence.
If the parents want to kid themselves that their children really are in "the best school in Norwalk," they are in for a rude awakening. Close Quote
