Open Quote We have a pre-schooler, kindergartener and first grader at the Denver Waldorf school. We're still learning about the school as a whole, but have been very happy with our experience thus far. We really appreciate the early childhood curriculum, which emphasizes free, imaginative play, healthy food, rhythms and habits, outside time, stories, and kind, patient social interactions. These kids get to be kids! The teachers are very knowledgeable (and have taught us) about how much gross/fine motor health, for example, leads to academic success. So, not only does it all "feel" like a place where my child is honored and comfortable, there is some solid science behind why it is a supportive education. The more I learn about this, the more I realize what a ground breaking, progressive educational approach this is. Close Quote

Open Quote i've had two daughters at this school since kindergarten (they are now 15 and 17). i couldn't be happier with their development. they are safe and they love their school and their friends. being a brit and having had a great education at an english boarding school, i found it hard to find a school in colorado which educates the whole person in a very wide and age-appropriate way. waldorf is the only form of american education i can recommend with confidence because it is based upon the excellent scientific and spiritual methodology of an academic expert: rudolf steiner. his work forms the basis of truly world-class educational techniques which produce fabulous thinkers and incredibly well-rounded members of society. denver waldorf is a must if you are remotely concerned about your children growing up in today's difficult and dangerously under-educated world. Open Quote We have been attending DWS for 5 years and are very happy with the quality of education our children are receiving. We appreciate the conscious efforts to constantly have play-based learning, a community garden, integrating all grades to have friendships between the grades and the looping of teachers for the mixed age kindergarten and 1st-8th grade. Beautiful artwork is created in all subjects to link the curriculum together whether it be Embryology in high school or in first grade working on math equations. Teachers are close to our families and children from the start and administration know all the children by name. We feel our children are cared for and held close throughout the day. Close Quote

Open Quote The Denver Waldorf School is a wonderful example of an urban Waldorf school. Our older daughter, now a junior in the Denver Waldorf High School, has attended since kindergarten, and our younger, now a DWS 6th grader, has attended since the age of 3 1/2. The school educates parents in the views of Rudolf Steiner, an amazing late 19th- to early 20th-century visionary on whose insight into childhood development this system of education is based. Most of what today's researchers "uncover" about how children learn and how their brains work only confirm what Steiner/Waldorf schools have been assuming for almost a century.

Our daughters are happy, well-rounded, and well-educated. They are treated like human beings by all of their teachers. They are able in body and mind, as well-versed in such skills as knitting, woodworking and playing the recorder as they are in algebra, geography, Spanish, etc. They are embraced by a community that values their growth as people as much as the development of their minds. Waldorf schools, now numbering close to 1,000 world-wide, are vested in raising responsible, conscientious, thoughtful and creative adults into a world that could use such talents. Close Quote

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
