Summary

Sandburg Elementary School is a public elementary school located in Centennial, Colorado, serving 499 students in grades K-5. It is part of the highly-ranked Littleton School District No. 6, which is ranked 11th out of 115 school districts in the state and has a 5-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Sandburg Elementary consistently performs above the state and district averages in CMAS assessments for English Language Arts, Math, and Science. For example, in the 2024-2025 school year, Sandburg's proficiency rates were 57.4% in ELA (vs. 44.8% state and 61.9% district), 60.6% in Math (vs. 35.9% state and 54.3% district), and 54.9% in Science (vs. 39% state and 53.4% district). However, the school has seen a significant increase in chronic absenteeism, rising from 9.1% in 2021-2022 to 27.7% in 2023-2024, which is higher than the state average.

Sandburg Elementary's performance is generally higher than the nearby Runyon Elementary and Little Raven Elementary schools, which are also part of the Littleton School District. However, Lois Lenski Elementary, located about 1.5 miles away, consistently outperforms Sandburg in academic assessments. The school also faces challenges in addressing equity, as its male students consistently outperform the female students, and the performance of the White student subgroup is relatively lower compared to other subgroups.

Open Quote Had high hopes for our neighborhood school, but never really felt as though it was a "fit" for our kids. Each child had a couple of great teachers and a couple of adequate teachers (and a couple of pretty bad teachers, as well). My primary concern is for students with learning differences, as both of our kids fall into that category. As much as the school wants to improve in this area (even hiring an outstanding counselor) it simply lacks the resources or the understanding of this type of child, the various learning styles, and sufficient knowledge of the emotional/social aspects that, more often than not, go along with this learning profile. We transferred to another school where the difference is truly night and day. Behaviors and challenges are approached with a constructive/growth mindset as opposed to punitive. We now feel as though everyone from the P, the AP, the counselor, the GT coordinator, classroom teachers, etc. is there to support, love on, and grow our kiddos. Never felt that way at Sandburg. BTW - my wife and I are both educators with over 35 years of experience between us. If your kid is "in the box," you'll stand a much better chance of having a good experience. Close Quote
