Summary

Madison Elementary is a K-8 public school serving 703 students in the Stockton Unified School District, consistently ranking among the lowest-performing elementary schools in California.

Key data shows the school faces significant challenges, with student proficiency in core subjects like math (10.86%) and English (24.32%) far below state averages and notably lower than nearby schools such as Cleveland Elementary and Primary Years Academy. A major concern is chronic absenteeism, affecting 41.8% of students, which is more than double the rate at higher-performing schools like Kohl Open Elementary (11.3%) and Brookside (10.5%) in the neighboring Lincoln Unified district.

Interestingly, Madison spends more per student ($19,944) than all the comparison schools, yet has the weakest academic results, highlighting a need to review how resources are used. The school's performance has declined over time, though it has shown past success with specific student groups, suggesting targeted strategies could help. For improvement, the school could focus first on improving attendance and learning from other Stockton Unified schools like Commodore Stockton Skills that achieve better outcomes with similar student populations.

Open Quote If I had a choice to not put a star I would. The principal at Madison is the worst of them all my child had an issue with other students and I thought the problem was resolved after talking to her but then it continues so I talked to the principal again and she called my child in to her office and tell her she needs to stop getting her parents involved cause it’s causing problems but when the other child is threatening my child In front of her she doesn’t hear it or see it but when my child responded she proceeded to tell my child she is the cause of the problem.
