Summary

Scott Lane Elementary is a K-5 public school serving 406 students in the Santa Clara Unified School District, a 4-star district, and it serves a community with a higher level of economic need than many surrounding schools.

Academically, the school has historically struggled, ranking in the lower percentiles statewide, but it is showing clear signs of positive momentum. Recent years have seen its state ranking improve, with test scores in English, math, and science all rising significantly and chronic absenteeism dropping. The school appears to have particular strengths in supporting its English Language Learner students, who perform closer to state averages. However, significant challenges remain, as proficiency rates are roughly half the district average and math scores decline sharply between third and fifth grade.

When compared to nearby schools in the same district, the differences are striking. For example, Millikin Elementary and Washington Open Elementary have proficiency rates more than double those at Scott Lane, while Central Park Elementary also far outperforms it. This performance gap exists even though Scott Lane spends less per student than some higher-achieving schools like Bowers Elementary. The school's recent trajectory suggests it is on a path of improvement, working to overcome challenges like attendance and upper-grade math instruction to better serve its students.

Open Quote No academic progress, still at even lower grade level. My son focusing on survival. my son has been bullied since the begin. of school year after he told on the kid who threatened to choke him many times but nothing was done. I sent dozens of email/phone call correspondence with details to the nature of the abuse my son was going thru but received NO SOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM. I copied everyone including board of trustees through out the WHOLE YEAR and NOT ONE OF THEM CARED ABOUT MY SON..He's been followed home and kicked his private area, chased by kids at school getting called these nutz, these balls, b word, f word, all sort of fat names. He's been hit by kids with balls some days 5 balls at one time by different kids and the staff said it was accidental. the lunch staff had even deprived him of lunch saying they had nothing left but nutrition program director did take care of that one, he was picked on by male janitor ,
Every day my son did not want to attend school, crying and bitter. Close Quote
