Summary

Arlington Heights Elementary is a K-5 public school serving 329 students in Citrus Heights, part of the San Juan Unified School District, which faces academic challenges across many of its campuses.

The school's overall academic performance is significantly below state and district averages, with fewer than 27% of students proficient in English and fewer than 19% proficient in Math. However, the data reveals a school of contrasts: it performs exceptionally well for its Special Education students and has shown strong results for English Learners, yet it struggles with other student groups. There is also dramatic variation between grade levels, suggesting inconsistent instructional experiences. On a positive note, the school has made impressive progress in reducing chronic student absenteeism, cutting the rate by more than half since 2022.

Interesting comparisons exist with nearby schools. For instance, Cambridge Heights Elementary, another school in the same district, achieves much higher academic results with a similar student population, demonstrating that improvement is possible. Furthermore, Arlington Heights spends more per student than Cambridge Heights, indicating that how resources are used is more critical than the total amount. The analysis suggests the school could improve by learning from its own successful programs and from higher-performing peers like Cambridge Heights within the San Juan Unified district.

Open Quote I have worked at this school as a substitute teacher for the last 4 months. This year (2015-2016) Arlington has a new principal. Goals were set at the beginning of the year and they have exceeded them. This school is now the best kept secret in the district. Just watch for the recent testing data. Not only that, but their basketball team (formed this year) went to the finals. Arlington Heights is the new rising star of the district. Close Quote
