Summary

Bay Park Elementary is a K-5 public school serving 504 students in the San Diego Unified district, consistently earning a 4-star rating and performing in the 85th-87th percentile statewide, with strong academic results across English, Math, and Science that exceed both district and state averages.

The school stands out for its effective management of chronic absenteeism, which has improved to 11.7%, well below the district and state averages, and for achieving these strong academic outcomes while serving a student population where 28.77% qualify for free or reduced lunch. This performance is notable when compared to nearby schools like Linda Vista Elementary and Carson Elementary, which have higher economic need and significantly lower academic rankings, and to higher-performing schools like Holmes Elementary and Barnard Elementary, which serve less economically disadvantaged populations.

Bay Park demonstrates consistent and balanced performance across different student groups and does so cost-effectively, spending less per student than several neighboring schools with poorer outcomes. While it shows a common pattern of declining math scores in upper grades, similar to other local schools, it has maintained stable, above-average performance for over a decade, offering a reliable and equitable educational environment in its community.

Open Quote Bay Park is a great neighborhood school that is also very welcoming of families from outside of the neighborhood. I have had children here for 4+ years and have been very happy. The staff (both teachers and support staff) is incredibly dedicated to the students and the parents are a huge asset to this school. Close Quote
