Summary

Capital City Independent Study is a small, K-12 public alternative school serving 258 students within the Sacramento City Unified district, designed for students who may need a different approach from the traditional classroom setting.

The school faces significant challenges, with academic proficiency rates in English, math, and science far below both state averages and nearby alternative schools like Visions In Education and Fortune. It also has a very high chronic absenteeism rate of 49% and a dropout rate over four times the state average, though its graduation rate has been volatile in recent years. Interestingly, these struggles persist despite the school having a favorable student-teacher ratio and spending more per student than most comparable schools, creating a notable gap between its resources and its outcomes.

When compared to other local alternatives, it's clear that serving a high-needs population does not predetermine results; schools like Fortune achieve stronger academic results with a similar student body. The data suggests that for families considering Capital City Independent Study, understanding the specific support systems and instructional model in place to address absenteeism, engagement, and core subject mastery, particularly in mathematics, would be crucial areas to explore.

Open Quote Outside of maybe 2 or 3 school personnel, your gonna have to deal with rude, gossipy, and all around lousy school admin, front desk secretary's, and teachers. School has went down hill ever since this new principal took over. Not to mention this score ranks super low in academics smh. Close Quote
