Summary

Woodcrest Elementary is a K-6 public school serving about 660 students in the Riverside Unified School District, maintaining a solid, middle-of-the-road ranking among California elementary schools.

The school has clear strengths, particularly in its science program, where student proficiency notably outpaces both the district and state averages, and in its exceptional support for special education students. Parents will also be encouraged to know that chronic absenteeism has improved dramatically and is now better than average. Academically, the school shows a promising pattern of growth; while younger grades struggle somewhat in core subjects, by 6th grade, students excel in English Language Arts, suggesting effective teaching that helps kids progress over time.

Compared to nearby schools like Benjamin Franklin Elementary and Tomas Rivera Elementary, Woodcrest's overall test scores are lower, despite the school spending more per student. However, it performs better than other district peers such as Washington Elementary and Hawthorne Elementary. Performance for English Learners has been inconsistent year-to-year, indicating an area the school is likely focused on improving.

Open Quote Great but there are tons of bullies and very few strict teachers. Some verbal fights, sometimes maybe pushing when schools out. Close Quote

Open Quote My children went to this school. I was pleased with all but one of the teachers they had during their years there, but dealing with principal Caudill and the administration in the office, particularly Debbie, was such an unpleasant and unprofessional experience that I transferred them to a different school. Principal Caudill would ignore any phone messages or e-mails regarding parent concerns and then when asked if he had received them, simply reply "yes" with no apology or explanation for failing to respond. Dealing with him and certain people working in the school office, who continually maintained a hostile or indifferent demeanor in interactions, was really a nightmare. The difference between the helpfulness, caring and professionalism of the people working at the private school that my children now attend and those at Woodcrest elementary is like night and day.
