Summary

Monroe Elementary is a K-8 public school serving 152 students in Fresno, operating as its own small district.

The school has experienced significant ups and downs in its statewide academic ranking over the years, showing more volatility than many nearby schools like Washington Colony Elementary. While it spends more per student than most neighbors, such as Pacific Union Elementary, its academic results have historically been in the middle range compared to surrounding schools. Notably, the school has made impressive recent progress in reducing chronic student absenteeism, bringing it below the state average.

Current performance shows strengths in some areas, like 8th-grade English, but reveals a significant need for improvement in science, where proficiency is much lower than at schools like Alvina Elementary Charter. The data indicates promising upward trends in test scores and attendance over the last two years, suggesting the school may be effectively addressing previous challenges.

Open Quote I have fond memories of Monroe as it was my first teaching job. I know there are many former students who are professionals and very successful in their careers. Hope the same for the present students. Staff was professional and progressive. Monroe had an exemplary primary early educational program and collaborative instruction was coordinated for continued individualized instruction in the intermediate and upper grades as the students progressed through the grades (although the school was non-graded). Many wonderful parents, good community. Best of luck to future generations of students. Close Quote
