Summary

Elysian Heights Elementary School Arts Magnet is a public K-5 school serving 401 students in the Los Angeles Unified district, known for its remarkable and steady improvement from a low to a high statewide ranking over the past seven years.

The school stands out for its strong academic results, particularly in science where it far exceeds district and state averages, and for its effective support for male students. Compared to many nearby schools like Mayberry Street Elementary and Glassell Park Elementary School Sci Technical Engr Arts and Math Magnet, Elysian Heights achieves these outcomes while spending significantly less per student, suggesting highly efficient use of resources. Its closest competitor, Clifford Street Elementary Math & Technology Magnet, has slightly higher English scores but is much smaller and trails in science proficiency.

While the school has successfully reduced chronic absenteeism since the pandemic, it does see a noticeable dip in fourth-grade performance before a strong rebound in fifth grade. As an arts magnet, Elysian Heights demonstrates that a specialized arts focus is fully compatible with robust academic achievement, making it a compelling success story of sustained improvement within the public school system.

Open Quote Both my sons go to this school and ignore the figures on this site the teachers are AMAZING. One just won teacher of the year in LA. It's now an arts magnet and the art, pottery, music and theatre my kids get to experience is incredible along with excellent academics. Fantastic, caring principal, lots of extracurriculars like gardening club and running club, great involved parents and a lovely campus. You'd be lucky to get in apply for the magnet lottery as soon as you can!!! Close Quote
