Summary

Prisk Elementary is a consistently high-performing K-5 public school serving 469 students in the Long Beach Unified School District, ranking in the top 6% of all California elementary schools.

Academically, Prisk stands out dramatically within its district, with student proficiency in English and Math running roughly 30 percentage points higher than the Long Beach Unified average. It is particularly effective in supporting all students, earning exceptional statewide rankings for its Hispanic, African American, and Special Education student groups, and it maintains strong, balanced results across all grade levels from 3rd through 5th. While nearby schools like Gant Elementary also perform well, others such as Henry, Bixby Elementary, and Burcham Elementary rank significantly lower.

An interesting finding is the "Prisk Paradox," where the school achieves these top-tier results without the highest per-student spending or the smallest class sizes in the area, suggesting instructional quality and school culture are key drivers. For context, the highest-performing schools in the broader area, like Jack L. Weaver Elementary and Richard Henry Lee Elementary in the neighboring Los Alamitos Unified district, rank even higher, highlighting how district boundaries can influence school performance.

Open Quote Our daughter goes to prisk and has now for a few years now. 2 out of the 3 teachers were very nice and helpful and seemed like they actually cared about the children. We have known our daughter needed extra help but has been displaying signs of dislexia and ADD, so we requested an IEP evaluation. I reached out to the principal and other staff members multiple times and pretty much was either misled or completely ignored. Months go by, before they basically tell us they forgot her. Having school professionals telling you they forgot about your child is upsetting to put it politely. That aside the tutoring programs there are extremely scarce and they are very selective about who can get it. When we were elected for tutoring, they cut it short weeks early due to "funding". The school psychologist is only there twice a week due to having to report to 2 other schools as well as prisk. Long beach unified has been an absolute nightmare. The teachers for the most part just don't have the tools they need to do their job to the best of their ability. Close Quote
