Summary

Middle College High is a standout public high school (grades 9-12) serving 343 students in Stockton, California, and it consistently ranks among the very best schools in the entire state despite being part of the Lodi Unified district, which has an average performance ranking.

The school's academic results are extraordinary, with over 98% of students proficient in English and a perfect 100% graduation rate for five straight years, dramatically outperforming both district and state averages. It achieves this while serving a student body where over half qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, and it does so with a higher student-teacher ratio and more efficient spending than many nearby schools like Village Oaks High or Plaza Robles Continuation High. This success is shared by other specialized programs in the area, such as the highly-ranked Stockton Early College Academy, suggesting the early college model is particularly effective locally.

Middle College High's excellence is consistent and broad, with top-tier performance across all student groups for over a decade. Key factors include an exceptionally low chronic absenteeism rate of just 5%, indicating strong student engagement, and a school design that produces outstanding outcomes within its district context, far surpassing other Lodi Unified schools like Ronald E. McNair High. This makes it a compelling example of how a focused educational approach can lead to remarkable student success.

Open Quote Middle College is a great school. Both of my daughter's graduated from MCHS and I am still an involved parent at the school 5 years after my youngest has graduated. They care about all the students success in school and life. Many students keep in contact with school long after they graduate. This is an extension of family, not just a school. Close Quote
