Summary

Christa McAuliffe Elementary is a highly-rated K-8 school serving 358 students in the affluent, high-achieving Cupertino Union school district in Saratoga, California.

Academically, the school is exceptional by state standards, ranking in the 96th percentile with strong test scores, but it finds itself in a unique position among its immediate neighbors. Within the same top-tier district, schools like Murdock-Portal Elementary and John Muir Elementary achieve even higher academic results, meaning McAuliffe is a top-performing school surrounded by some of the state's very elite institutions. Its K-8 structure, which includes middle school grades, also sets it apart from most nearby K-5 schools.

The school's performance shows some variation across grade levels, particularly in middle school science, and it has a slightly higher rate of chronic student absenteeism compared to its highest-performing district peers. Interestingly, McAuliffe spends more per student than some of those higher-achieving schools, highlighting that factors beyond funding contribute to school performance. Compared to schools in other districts, such as Argonaut Elementary in the Saratoga Union Elementary district, McAuliffe serves a slightly more diverse student population socioeconomically while maintaining consistently high marks and a stable 5-star rating over the past decade.

Open Quote Our middle school child, who has been at McAuliffe since Kindergarten has thrived both academically and socially at school. The small group instruction facilitates individualized learning and critical thinking skills. She was able to do advanced work because in most cases the curriculum is set up for students to work at whatever level they are at. Most importantly, students are motivated to learn more because they enjoy the educational hands-on activities and the integrated fashion in which topics are presented and covered. Close Quote
