Summary

Ronald Reagan Elementary is a large, consistently high-performing K-6 school serving 831 students in Bakersfield's Panama-Buena Vista Union district, standing out for its strong academic results and exceptional student attendance.

The school achieves impressive test scores, with about 70% of students proficient in English and 60% in math, which is significantly higher than the district average. This performance is notable because the school serves a student population with a moderate level of economic need, yet it outperforms several nearby schools with similar demographics, such as Christa McAuliffe Elementary and Laurelglen Elementary. A major strength is its remarkably low chronic absenteeism rate of 8%, which is less than half the rate of its district and far better than the state average, indicating a strong culture of daily attendance and engagement.

While Reagan Elementary is a star within its district, comparisons to schools in neighboring districts like Rosedale Union Elementary show there is always room to learn; for example, Del Rio Elementary has an even lower absenteeism rate. Parents should note that performance can vary by grade, with 6th graders excelling in English but 5th graders facing a notable challenge in math. The school has shown effective use of its resources to deliver solid results year after year.

Open Quote Like many people, we researched schools when looking to move a year and half ago. Reagan looked like a great choice for our two elementary school children. Unfortunately due to oveflow" my children have not attended Reagan Elementary. Well, my son has. For 2 weeks. Yesterday we were just notified he will be transferred next week to another school. This was the case last year when we moved to this area so I kept him at his previous shcool so he wouldnt have to change schools twice. This year when enrolling I asked ahead of time whether it would be an issue and was assured there were no concerns for this school year. Yesterday I got the call. Although the shcool staff and district were polite they both gave the "by the book", "numbers", "blah, blah, blah". My son is a person. He is a child. He isnt your book or your numbers. Unfortunately, that fact and the handful of legitimate reasons that this may be extremely disruptive to my sons educational experience is of no concern at Reagan Elementary/PBVUSD. I would really like to rant about the kids who dont even live in the boundaries who are attending there with an interdistrict transfer, etc. but I won't. If you think your children will be attending Reagan based on boundaries I suggest not getting attached to the idea. Best of luck. Close Quote
