Summary

O C Johnson School is an elementary school in Yuma, Arizona, serving 367 students in grades PK-5 as part of the Yuma Elementary District.

Academically, O C Johnson School has struggled, with proficiency rates in English Language Arts and Mathematics significantly lower than state and district averages, with only 30-55% of students meeting proficiency standards. The school's performance varies across student subgroups, with Hispanic and English Language Learner students performing relatively better than African American, Native American, and White students. This is likely due to the school's high percentage of students from low-socioeconomic backgrounds, with over 80% qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch.

The challenges faced by O C Johnson School are not unique, as nearby schools within the Yuma Elementary District, such as C.W. McGraw Elementary and Alice Byrne Elementary, have also struggled academically. This suggests that the district as a whole may be facing systemic issues that require a comprehensive approach to address the underlying factors, such as teacher quality, curriculum, and access to educational resources, which are likely contributing to the schools' academic struggles.

Open Quote This school is awful. They do not take bullying seriously, and will actually tell you your child is lying about being bullied. I had to take my child out of this school and homeschool it got so bad. The teacher herself was a bully. Close Quote
