Open Quote The advantage of being the largest school in the city and in the state, is the wide variety in curriculum. Classes are geared for every ability and interest. Starting with the freshman "house" program where students are grouped with core teachers who work to support them in their transition to high school, to the high number of AP and college credit courses offered, this is the best college prep school in the public school system. Don't be fooled by median test scores. Students in the honors/AP track are getting the best there is. These kids are getting accepted at every school in the country and getting the scholarships as well. National science research, calculus geeks, performing arts endorsements, and more. Sports are less competitive but they do participate at the 5A level, which is the most competitive level in the state. There are enough types of tutoring for students with challenges to have a different choice every day. The school library is a dream and the library staff are full-service educators, showing up at every activity and event to support the students. Performing arts are well developed, with 4 orchestra levels plus mariachi, steel drum and percussion bands, jazz and guitar bands, piano and music theory - the drama department is award winning and offers long runs of sold-out performances. Okay, there is a down side - if you have problems, you're likely to be on your own. For some kids this school may be too big. For the motivated student, it's a dream. Close Quote
