Summary

Annie Kellond Elementary School is a public elementary school serving 372 students in grades PK-5 in Tucson, Arizona, which is part of the Tucson Unified District. The school consistently performs below the district and state averages on standardized tests, with proficiency rates in English Language Arts and Mathematics 10-15 percentage points lower than the averages. Additionally, the school has a low statewide ranking, typically in the bottom half of Arizona elementary schools, and its ranking has steadily declined over the past several years.

Interestingly, the nearby schools in the Tucson Unified District, such as Dietz K-8 School and Borman K-8 School, generally perform better than Annie Kellond Elementary School on academic measures, with significantly higher proficiency rates across multiple grade levels. The school's high percentage of economically disadvantaged students, as indicated by the free/reduced lunch rates, may be a contributing factor to its lower academic performance.

Additionally, the wide variation in performance across different student subgroups at Annie Kellond Elementary School, such as the low rankings for certain groups, indicates that the school may need to focus on addressing achievement gaps and providing targeted support for underperforming students. Addressing these challenges will likely require a multi-faceted approach, including targeted interventions, resource allocation, and collaboration with the broader community.

Open Quote Our child started school at Kellond in 2016. Overall we are quite happy with the Teacher, Principal and the after-school program. Her teacher gives the children individual attention. They are not expected to learn the same way or to be at the same level. She has even been on 2 Kindergarten field trips! The school offers opportunities for family participation like PJ night, rollerskating, pizza parties & more. The after school care program allows the children opportunities to: learn to garden (resulting in a fresh salad bar,) participate in recitals/plays and more! Close Quote

Open Quote My child was moved to Kellond Elementary when Rogers Elementary was closed. The Principal, Mrs. Gallegos transferring as well as the many teachers that she'd brought together at Rogers were the reason that we allowed our daughter's transfer to the new school. It was a successful first year, but it was a strain on all to incorporate the new plans, new teachers, new principal into the existing. I am confidant that Mrs. Gallegos will lead the school into even better results in the upcoming years. Close Quote
