Summary

Desert Oasis Elementary School is a public elementary school serving grades PK-8 in Phoenix, Arizona, with an enrollment of 671 students. The school is part of the Tolleson Elementary District, which is ranked 233 out of 289 districts in the state and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Despite relatively high per-student spending, Desert Oasis Elementary consistently underperforms compared to the district and the state of Arizona in standardized test scores across all grade levels and subjects. For example, in 2024-2025, only 19% of 8th graders were proficient or better in Science, compared to 24% for the district and 30% for the state. The school also has had relatively high dropout rates in recent years, ranging from 2.7% to 6.1%, which are higher than the state average. Additionally, Desert Oasis Elementary has a high percentage of economically disadvantaged students, with 79.88% of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch in 2022-2023.

Interestingly, the nearby schools in the Tolleson Elementary District and Pendergast Elementary District also struggle academically, with similar low test scores and school rankings. However, some schools like Arizona Desert Elementary and Sheely Farms Elementary perform slightly better than Desert Oasis. Despite the challenges, addressing the issues at Desert Oasis Elementary will require a comprehensive approach targeting multiple areas, such as instructional quality, resource allocation, and community engagement.

Open Quote Worst school ever they are a 3 out of 10 school they removed my son off campus without my permission or knowledge or permission slip what if something would happen to him then he broke his toe and they refuse to let him on school campus because he couldn't wear shoe and then when I finally got him on campus the principal wants to laugh and roll her eyes about my sons injury the principles very rude does not care about the children and has no respect for the parents or the children it's a bad school all the bad reviews are about the principal and the superintendent she doesn't care she backs up the principal and everything. Sad how these educators are. Close Quote
