As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote The communication between staff and parents is fantastic. The leadership academy program is wonderful. The only school we could find that teaches leadership/life skills along with academics. Our daughter will frequently state she should do her homework before play because she was taught “first things first” etc Close Quote

Open Quote My daughter is new to this school this year. We are so glad our home is within its boundaries. The academics are amazing but the leadership training Because of the leadership academy training is amazing. Training that will help her throughout her life. She has learned to work with other people, responsibility and tactics to succeed even if she is in a frustrating situation. I don't have to hound her to get her homework done any more. Very happy. Open Quote My girls are in 3rd and 4th grade and I have loved Cerritos since they began in Kindergarten. I especially love the Leadership program and the opportunity my girls have to get involved in activities. Their teachers have had high expectations, great classroom management and I have seen tremendous academic growth with both girls. The PTO is very active and a very hardworking supportive group of volunteers. They are welcoming, organized, and put on some great family events. Close Quote

Open Quote My son and daughter both attended Cerritos, then Altadena, and now are students at Desert Vista High School. Cerritos helped lay the foundation of learning for them to be successful at higher levels of education. They were not at Cerritos when the Leadership academy began but I can see now at their high school level how it would have been beneficial. Learning how to effectively organize their time, set goals, take ownership of their education and using their own personal strengths to be a leader to help others would have been an asset to them. Every Kyrene school has state and district academic goals to reach so I doubt that Cerritos would be allowed to set aside high academic goals to solely promote the leadership aspect. Close Quote

Open Quote My children have attended this school for the past six years, and as parents we have been quite satisfied. However, this year the school became a 'leadership academy' where they focus on the Covey Seven Habits. This program has decreased the amount of time the teachers could devote to academic learning. Consequently, the kids are bored, and frustrated. As a parent, I am seriously considering leaving for a charter or private school. The school isn't about academic excellence any more, but rather having my child become a "leader"

I rate the program as poor, but the Cerritos teachers are excellent. This program hinders their performance as teachers, which is very unfortunate. That is why I am giving the "average' rating. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
