Despite being in the Flagstaff area, Mount Elden Middle School has consistently ranked in the bottom half of Arizona middle schools over the past decade, with rankings ranging from 430 to 557 out of 552-854 schools. The school has received a 1-2 star rating from SchoolDigger, indicating below-average performance compared to other middle schools in the state. Interestingly, the nearby Sinagua Middle School, also part of the Flagstaff Unified District, has a similar performance ranking, ranging from 439 to 597 out of 550-854 schools.

Mount Elden Middle School's academic performance, as measured by proficiency rates in English Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science, is consistently below the state and district averages. The school also experiences relatively high dropout rates, ranging from 3.8% to 6.1% over the past few years, which is higher than the typical middle school dropout rate. These challenges suggest that the school may face systemic issues that have not been effectively addressed, and the similarities with the nearby Sinagua Middle School indicate that the problems may be district-wide, requiring a comprehensive approach to improve educational outcomes for all students.

Open Quote One thing that I've learned, over the years, is that IF a child likes a school and likes and respects the staff.. they will learn if they don't, they won't. I am so impressed with the basic caring shown by the MEMS administration and teachers. I like the nightly 'updates,' the special programs and the fact that the teachers appear to respect their students as individuals rather than numbers. Other schools may have a higher 'rating' but for an all-around institution that apparently seeks to foster self-esteem and character as well academics, MEMS is a five star. Close Quote
