Summary

Bales Elementary School is a public elementary school serving 657 students in grades PK-8 in Buckeye, Arizona, which is part of the Buckeye Elementary District. Despite spending more per student than the state average, Bales Elementary consistently underperforms academically compared to the district and state, with only 16% of 3rd graders proficient in English Language Arts, far below the 22% district and 36% state averages.

Bales Elementary has a very low statewide ranking, placing between the 706th and 1061st out of over 1,000 Arizona elementary schools in recent years, and has received a 1-star or 2-star rating from SchoolDigger, indicating it is among the lowest-performing schools in the state. The school struggles to serve its diverse student population, ranking in the bottom half or quarter of Arizona elementary schools for most student subgroups. Additionally, Bales Elementary has had relatively high dropout rates in recent years, ranging from 2.5% to 6.1%, significantly above the state average.

However, Bales Elementary is located in close proximity to several other elementary schools in the Buckeye Elementary District and neighboring Liberty Elementary District that perform significantly better academically. This suggests there may be opportunities for Bales Elementary to learn from and collaborate with these higher-performing peer schools to improve its own academic outcomes and student success.

Open Quote This school has poor control over bullying problems. As a former student, I had to put up with bullying because I was usually told by my teacher that I probably deserved it. The ones in charge of the school only stepped in to "resolve" the problem was when I actually reacted to the bullying. By that time, I was put in in school suspension while the bullies got a quick lecture and were sent back to class. This school seems to be okay with breeding bullies and victims. It took years for me to heal from the trauma caused by this school. Close Quote
