The school has seen fluctuations in its statewide ranking over the years, ranging from a high of 21st out of 397 Arizona high schools in 2010-2011 to a low of 254th out of 420 in 2017-2018, and currently holds a 2-out-of-5 star rating from SchoolDigger.

One of Desert View's key strengths is its performance in supporting special education students, ranking 31st out of 155 Arizona high schools in this category and earning a 4-star rating. The school also consistently outperforms the state average in English Language Arts proficiency across grades 6-8, and its 8th grade science proficiency rates are significantly higher than the state average. However, the school's overall statewide ranking has declined over the years, and its dropout rate has been increasing, rising from 3.3% in 2019-2020 to a projected 5.2% in 2023-2024.

When compared to nearby high schools, such as Kofa High School and Cibola High School, Desert View generally outperforms these schools in English Language Arts and Science proficiency, but its Mathematics proficiency lags behind the district and state averages. The school's performance for low socioeconomic status students is on par with the state average, ranking 127th out of 253 Arizona high schools, suggesting it may be facing challenges in supporting its economically disadvantaged population.

Open Quote The Carpe Diem model is ideal for students who excel in academics, have difficulty relating to peers in a traditional setting, or just need a smaller school environment. Unfortunately, CD is building a reputation of becoming 'THE' school for students who are failing other local schools. This adversely effects the overall productivity and performance for both students and teachers. Consider carefully if your child can work independently at a rigorous pace in the midst of chaos and bad behavior. Close Quote
