Open Quote Hearn is definitely better than a lot of the surrounding regular district schools. However, this school is mostly a teach to the test school. Last year they took a practice test for the AZ Merit practically every day. The focus is on review, review, review not learn, learn, learn and definitely not move ahead. Students who are ahead are forced to review and are held back to wait for the other students to catch up. There is not flexibility here for the advanced student.
Hearn is definitely not a terrible school for the average to struggling student though. It offers Junior Great Books to all students, has foreign language for all students, has art, music and best of all it is a FREE charter school (not one of the ones that charges "voluntary tuition."
There are a few teachers who are really disrespectful towards both students and parents but lots of great teachers as well. Cute campus and it feels like a small, neighborhood school where everyone knows each other. AND, how many other schools have solar power panels? AND, how many other Title I schools have such good test scores? Close Quote
